Grill Power: Everything you need to know to make delicious, healthy meals on your Indoor Electric Grill (Paperback)

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I bought my son a George Forman grill when he moved into his new apartment, and figured that would take care of that! But when I came across this book (at a convention, of all places) it seemed the logical add-on gift. If I had a grill of my own, I'd have a hard time handing this book over to him!
Author and chef Holly Rudin-Braschi promises that this is "Everything you need to know to make delicious, healthy meals on your indoor electric grill," and she follows through by offering MORE than just the 50 plus recipes. In the beginning, she offers an "International Pantry Solutions," listing basic spices, sauces, herbs and condiments for different cuisines (Cajun, Creole, Caribbean, Chinese, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, southwest, middle eastern, south east Asian). Toward the back of the book, she offers recipes for meatless grilling -- middle eastern veggie wrap with heavenly hummus, Taj Mahal Tofu Steaks with Pineapple Express Rice and Cucumber Raita Salad. In the thickest section, in the middle, she gives the reader more traditional meals -- gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches (much improved!), hamburgers from simple to fancy, steaks, chicken, sausage, Texas chili, veal chops and much much more.
Throughout this thick, easy to read book, she gives a bundle of useful information, especially good for first time or infrequent cooks. This includes time saving ingredients; instructions on how to make your own Cajun seasoning, dry jerk seasoning mix, how long to marinate meat, chicken and fish, grill times; well composed salads; a chapter on how to grill super steaks, chops and tenderloins, including what to buy, how much you'll have when you're done grilling (4 to 5 oz. of meat becomes 3 to 4 oz. when cooked) grill temperatures and time for different meats and more.
[She also does something I've not seen anywhere before - gives recipes for sauces that go in the cups of infusion grills that use a lid, adding extra flavor to the finished food!]
For the new or busy cook, the layout of her recipes is excellent. She starts with the whole menu -- for example, American Apricot Sauced Poultry with Grilled Asparagus over Vermicelli Pilaf.
She gives a "Menu Game Plan," which includes prep and cooking time (50 minutes for this one), instructions in order of time (great for those of us who can't figure out how to get all the dishes ready to serve at the same time). Next, she offers some Cook's Notes -- in this one she discusses to peel or not to peel the asparagus.
The recipe for each dish comes next, and each one is easily viewable (you don't have to turn the page in the middle of cooking). Each recipe includes:
Ingredients;
Substitutes (if you don't want to use the white wine in this dish, substitute apple cider or apple juice);
Step-by-step instructions;
Serving instructions
Each meal has the Grill Time for different types of grill (Two-Sided Contact Grill; Hibachi Grill, Combination Grill or Infusion Grill). Her "Mix and Match" section tells you where else you can use some of the dishes -- in this one, the Rice Pilaf can be used for Amazing Maple Glazed Pork Chops on page 115 or Smart and Saucy Rosemary Cherry Lamb Chops on page 119.
At the end of each meal section, she offers an approximate Nutrients Per Serving of Entire Meal -- you can simply divide by the number of people/servings to determine the calories, cholesterol, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, etc.
Highly recommended for anyone who has received a grill as a gift, and really wants to cook! And if you're going to buy a grill for yourself, or as a gift, check this book out first. In the opening chapter, she says "to write this book, I used just about every electric grill available and discovered that there are four basic styles." She goes on to give the pluses and minuses of each kind, a good help in deciding which grill is best for your needs.
A great book for those who want to do more than slap a burger on the grill, with information that carries over to stovetop cooking.

Weber 9600 Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

Barbecue is good but controlling the heat from charcoals can be tricky. I've been trying to master the art for years, and with this product it makes it a lot easier to indirectly cook larger portions of meat. Also helps to controll the range of cooking you desire, on one side of the grill you can have less charcoal burning for things like hot dogs, and thinner portions of meat, that don't require intense heat, and on the other end you can put more charcoals for things like chicken breasts and steak. Has a suffiecient capacity but could hold more and is why I gave it 4 stars. Other than that I love the fuel holders it makes placement and clean-up of charcoal a breeze and it gets the job done.

Product Features

  • Pair of sturdy holders for charcoal or wood chunks
  • Made from durable aluminized steel
  • Fits 22-1/2-inch kettle grills, including Weber's One Touch and Master Touch series
  • Makes indirect cooking safe and convenient

Weber 18 1/2-Inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grills

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I have had this grill for three years. It has been used almost daily for two seasons. Twice, I dropped the lid chipping the porscelin. It has been relocated by careless movers once. It still survives and is completely functional. Not only that, no parts have rusted on it. If I order a...lid, it will look like it just came out of the box.
Maintenance is easy. In fact, if the grill is emptied thoroughly, the ash catcher can be used to hold the rinse water if you are unable to clean it outside (you do have to empty it often). I have, in fact, cleaned this grill in my kitchen, with out much of a mess. It really hasn't been any more difficult then cleaning a regular oven.
Cooking is very even, the swing-outs on the grid make adding charcoal easy during indirect cooking. I purchased a set of rails to hold the charcoal to each side. I insert my drip pan in the middle, and then put more charcoal as needed in the grill without disturbing the food by opening up the swing-outs in the grate to add charcoal. This is a very handy feature. For direct cooking, you just place the charcoal over the bottom grid as per instructions.
The manual contains several useful recipies to get you familiar with this cooking device. I highly recommend reading it, and following its instructions. The Weber One-Touch Gold 18-1/2" is a worthwhile purchase if you are cooking for one or two people, and will more then pay for its self as compared to eating brats at the hot dog stand. Buy this grill, and you'll eat T-bones and baked potatoes for FAR less then at a steak house, for a very long time!

Sanyo HPS-SG3 200-Square-Inch Electric Indoor Barbeque Grill, Black

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

All considered, I decided to give this Sanyo indoor grill a 5-star rating. It's probably more like 4.5 stars, but Amazon doesn't allow that. I'll explain.

On the plus side, I really like the simplicity of this grill. It's also light-weight, registering a little under seven pounds, which means it's easy to move around - no breaking your back! It's also quite easy to clean: just soapy warm water and dry! The grill consists of three pieces: a metal grill, a sheet metal oil drip pan, and a plastic base. The base does feel a little insubstantial, but the whole thing, put together, is quite sturdy. The 200 in^2 cooking surface is good for a family of up to four.

I also loved the price: I never imagined I could have a quality indoor grill for such a low price. (Thanks to Amazon, too?) This is probably what tilted me to the five-star rating. The grill, made in China, is of pretty good build quality, and looks like it'll last a long time. The price and value just can't be beat.

Above all, the grill really gives you delicious BBQ food! I've grilled steaks, pork chops, burgers, franks, chicken breasts, chicken legs, chicken wings, vegetables, and more, and *each and every time* the food came out absolutely delicious. For example, I bought 2 pounds of semi-boneless rib steaks at Shaw's for ten bucks. I sprayed the grill with some oil spray, pre-heat the grill to 350 F degrees (which took about 20 minutes), and then grilled the steaks (together with a couple burger patties and some green peppers) for about 15 or 16 minutes to well-done. Then my family enjoyed a delicious steak meal. Not counting the cost of the grill itself, but including electricity (the grill is rated at 1300W), the whole meal came to less than $15 for four full-sized adults! Imagine if we had eaten out at a steakhouse; the last time I went to a steakhouse in Manhattan, I had to shell out over $80 per person, with no appetitizer ordered and only tap water! In fact, I found my own grilled steaks (served with Diet Coke bought on sale) even better. Even if the Sanyo had gone meet its makers after this one meal, I'd have more than broken even on the meal, compared to any restaurant that serves steaks.

So I'm really thrilled about the value and the quality of the food.

Now, why not a full-hearted five stars? Well, because this is a low-cost product, there are a couple items that I dislike. One, the thermostat is a joke; it has temperature ranges like "200-250" and "300-425" but doesn't give you exact markers, so you have to guess where to turn the knob to in order to preheat to 325. Not a big deal after a few tries, and I seem to get it right (more or less) each time even though I'd never operated a grill, indoor or outdoor, before. Two, cooking time is not short, period. Preheating to 300 takes about 15 minutes and to 425 takes over 20 minutes. Cooking itself takes between 10 and 20 minutes depending on what you cook and the meat's thickness. Also, the cooking time seems to vary with room temperature.

Three, more important, this grill is not completely smokeless. The oil spray will give out the most smoke, although it hasn't set off our smoke alarm yet. (I keep the doors and kitchen windows open when cooking.) In fact, I don't think any open grill can give you smokeless cooking. As long as you have oil heated to over 300 degrees, you will get smoke. Please keep this in mind if you live in a meticulously maintained house and cannot stand any grill smoke.

But all in all, I love this grill. I'd gladly buy another one any time. While grilled meat may not be healthy, this grill cooks yummy BBQ meat and veggies and saves me tons of money. I recommend this grill.

Weber Style 6445 Professional-Grade Stainless-Steel 3-Piece Barbeque Tool Set

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I have used lots of different types of bbq tools and these by far are the best. The tongs are really where it is at, the other tools don't really matter as much. Some tongs aren't spring loaded unlike these which are and don't open very far, maybe far enough to grab a chicken leg, but that is it. These tongs will open to the width of a pork chop and the thing that I like most is the actual gripping surface, the jaws are nice and smooth so they will not tear skin! If your thinking that this set is too expensive at least buy the tongs individually, well worth it. I used to think that anything that had the Weber logo was just expensive because of the brand, but the more I use their stuff, the more I can justify the price tag.

Meco 9325 Deluxe Electric Cart Grill, Satin Black

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I moved into a condo last year on the second floor and had to give up my gas grill (boo hoo) since the rules were that I could have an electric grill only. Found the Meco sight, purchased the grill with the rotisserie although have never attached it, it IS a pain in the neck to clean, the inside (aluminum?) piece right underneath the coils has warped from the heat to the point where I need a new one, and if I don't wash it regularly (difficult to get in and out and you get very greasy) it catches on fire since the coils are so close. Ah well, that's the downfall of an electric grill I guess.... Also, where the heck do I find those little drip pans that hang right underneath??? I put a wide dish underneath since I can't find any and refuse to create my own and the splatters have just about ruined my deck. I guess I could find maybe a tupperware or something that has high sides that can catch those splatters... All in all, food doesn't taste any different than a gas grill - charcoal I'm not sure - it does do a good job except for the messiness of cleaning it. I'm satisfied.

Calphalon HE600CG Removable-Plate Nonstick Countertop Grill

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I've had many indoor grills, this one outshines all of them! It is a large grill, with space enough for four burgers, sandwiches, chicken thighs or breasts, etc. It heats up fast with minimal, if any smoke. I love the timer option and control of the temperature. It is super easy to clean and the removable plates fit nicely in the dishwasher. The drip tray is huge and located where it should be, in the back, so when you open up your grill while cooking, the grease goes in it and not on your counter or under the grill. This is a bonus safety measure which I describe in detail later on in this review.

The cooking quality is excellent. One of the reviewers complained about how poorly his chicken and steak turned out. I do not understand that, he must have cooked at the wrong temperatures (too hot), because we've had perfect results every time. It doesn't taste like steamed anything, but like grilled food. And yes, it makes a mean panini sandwich!

This grill is well made with quality parts. The only part that is questionable is the adjustable height knob, which is plastic, and I could see this breaking down the road, since we use this grill daily. I called customer service about it, and they said should it break, they would send out a new part, no problem. Good to know.

This grill looks so good on the counter, that I leave it there. It does not look tacky like the other models out there, where I found myself wanting to hide them right after use.

There was a huge fire hazard defect on a no-name cusinart model that I bought from Walmart for $50, which occurred well after the warranty ended. That grill ended up in the trash can. What happened with it is the grease leaked underneath whenever I opened it while cooking, melting the plastic that housed the wires, leaving the wires exposed. Thankfully I caught this before anything bad happened. So, when I looked for my next grill, I specifically looked for one that addressed this issue (the grease leaking underneath whenever you open the grill while cooking). The Calphalon addresses this issue with the drip tray in the back. Other grill makers need to follow suit!

The price tag seemed high to me, but it does come with a much better warranty than other models, it is made from higher quality parts, and it looks like something one would see in a professional kitchen. My husband is a chef, and is extremely happy with this grill as well. I'm not one known to buy high-end appliances, but in this case I did and can honestly say that I have no regrets. I highly recommend this grill

George Foreman GGR200RDDS Round Indoor/Outdoor Electric Grill

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I bought this to replace my 5 year old George Foreman Indoor/Outdoor Grill that just simply was used to death, and I loved it. This one is fine, but it is smaller than the original one (my first clue should have been the reduced price) and it is a bit harder to remove the grill plate to clean it. It has a clip underneath, for safety I suppose, but I find it awkward to remove. I really like the new one, too, but I am not happy it is so much smaller. It does fit into my sink for cleaning better than my old one since it is smaller. Just a warning if you are looking to replace the original model and want the same size, order GGR50B, not this one.

KitchenAid 14-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Block

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

My wife got me this set for christmas a couple years back and I absolutely love them. If you do the research you would know there are 3 kinds of materials used for most knives. Carbon steel which is soft, cheap, does not hold a sharp edge for long, and rusts. Stainless steel which is hard and keeps a sharp edge for a while but, is really hard to sharpen. The best of both is high carbon stainless steel which gives you the best of both worlds, which is what this set is made of.

The 3 big knifes are amazing. The spine (back edge) is rounded for comfort. The bolster (where the blade meets the handle) is rounded and extremely comfortable to use for long periods. Also the bolster / heel design eliminates the chance of cutting yourself from a sharp edge at the base of the blade. The balance is really good as well. These are really comfortable knives to use for extended periods of time. If you do not know knife skills please look them up and use a pinch grip for slicing and chopping. These knives are almost ergonomic for the pinch grip. I second guessed the quality of this set I got as a gift till I saw how much thought was put into the design and researched the materials used. These are my best knives I own and I use them daily with pride.

If you use your knives daily you will need to care for them. Cut on only plastic or wood, hone with the sharpening steel every couple of uses (more on that below), and keep it sharp by a professional or sharpen them on your own. Never put a quality knife like this in the dishwasher. When you are done with it rinse it and wash if needed, hand dry and place back in the block. Not only will it keep your knives in their best shape but it is a basic safety measure. Dishwashers destroy sharp knives. Not only do the detergents damage the edge, but the heat can weaken the temper of the edge since it is so thin. The carbon content of these knives will rust if not properly taken care of. This is not pure stainless, this is a professional set of high quality knives. This might seem rude, but if you cannot take proper care of your knives you do not deserve this set.

The sharpening steel is a name that suggests it actually sharpens, it does not. It should be called a honing steel. What it does is straighten out the edge to correct any rolling of the edge that has happened after use. The steel included is very good and magnetized to collect burs that might be removed during honing.

I have had these knives professionally sharpened and then started sharpening them myself. They hold an edge very well and the quality of the metal shines through. I do not know of another set that has so many great design qualities and is made of such fine materials for the price. I would recommend these to anyone and buy them as gifts if only my friends cooked at home as much as I do.

My only complaints are:
- the scissors are not as strong as I would like. I replaced them with a more robust pair
- the steak knives are a bit blunt and not too sharp. I used a sharpening stone to sharpen them to my liking. I understand why they came that way though.
- the serrated knife is a bit small and hard to work with. I would of liked a bigger and better designed serrated / bread knife.
Still not enough to dock a star for the price point.

Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

In light of Shelley Ryan's excellent report on the problem she had with her Presto fryer, I thought I should report my own experience. I filled my fryer with oil and let it come up to temperature on the highest setting. I checked the temperature with my own thermometer when the light went out, and indeed the temperature was only around 340 degrees rather than 375 as it should be. But, after simply mixing the oil around a bit with the drip baskets, I found that within a few minutes the temperature rose right up to 375 degrees, as it was supposed to be. The heating elements are very close to the unit's internal thermostat, and I think that you need to get the oil moving a bit in order for all of the oil to heat uniformly up to the correct temperature.

Of course, once the food gets frying there is plenty of movement in the oil to even out the temperature. And given the substantial amount of oil and the amount of power supplied by the unit's heating elements, I find that it does a much better, cleaner, and safer job of frying than I'd been experiencing on my gas stovetop with a deep pot. My experience has been that the temperature comes back up to the right level very quickly. The french fries, empanadas, and fried chicken I've cooked in it so far have come out great.

As some others have posted in reply to her review, it's possible that the thermostat in Ryan's unit was simply defective. For mine, it seems to be just right.

Stanley 94-248 65-piece General Homeowner's Tool Set

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I bought this kit to keep in the house and avoid having to run to my larger tool chest in the garage when I need a couple of basic tools. In general, the tool quality is good for general household use, and I really only have two complaints about the kit.

The first that is that the ratchet is basically junk (but what can you really expect for $43?). It's O.K. for light duty work, but don't expect to crank on it very hard without it breaking. If you think you'll need this tool often, consider buying a higher quality ratchet and socket kit.

The other issue that I have is that there are no wrenches included in the kit. I plan on picking up a cheap crescent wrench to add to mine. (Come on, Stanley, increase the price a few bucks if you have to, but make this a complete kit by adding a crescent wrench!)

Finally, the plastic box that the tools come in is nice from the standpoint of being able to quickly locate a tool, but the box takes up a lot of storage space. I bought a small tool bag to keep the tools in, and I found it more convenient. You have to look a little closer to find the tool you want with the bag, but there aren't enough pieces in this kit to create problems finding tools.

Shop-Vac 971-03-00 All-Around Wet/Dry Vacuum 2-Gallon, 3-HP

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I bought this little wonder to clean up during & after glass etching in a basement as well as keep down pet hair & cat litter in the kitchen. I needed something I could rely on that wasn't going to be "forgiving" with stray, loose & potentially dangerous/painful debris but I didn't want it to need a lot of space to live in and it couldn't be over $60. (It was $49.99 when I bought it).

It's been amazing & I've had it for years & used it as a wet vac, too when my studio apartment flooded (my fault, lol).

The canister is big enough not to have to empty for a few months (I use it every day) & by the time you do, it doesn't weigh a million pounds & cleaning it out, say with some OxyClean, it's small enough to do in the tub. And yes, I've used the body/bottom part of it as a wheeled bucket before, too; which also makes it light enough to pick up if you have to stand on a chair to hit the ceiling fan blades or curtains with the detail brushes included.

Perhaps most worth noting is the motor- 7.0 amps/3 HP is wicked effective, and with the brushes, it takes cat hair off of velvet bedskirts without the fear you're going to damage them.

Honestly, I'd been using it like a shop vac without a bag in it & the filter came loose & burnt out the motor. BTW, I'm reviewing it here because at the time of this review, this merchant has the lowest total price.

If you're thinking about it, I think you'll be happy with your purchase. That's why I'm getting a second one.

T-Fal TT7461002 Avante Deluxe 4-Slice Toaster, Black

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

Ok, it makes really fine toast. And it's quick.

Its also nice looking ... esp. if you have stainless appliances or some stainless handles in your kitchen already. The slanted design really makes this toaster an original. The slanted design seems to make putting toast in and taking it out easier, esp. for kids. Even the buttons are stylish ... and I like how the outer toasting levers align with the inner levers. There are controls on either side and both sides can easily handle a bagel with ease.

There is a good feature to note. The middle push levers ... one for each side. These inner levers are stylish, but have a meaningful purpose, which is to push the toast UP and OUT of the toaster (if needed, if you want to, you don't need to) ... I've never seen a toaster that could do that before! That really is a nice safety / convienience feature ... esp. with smaller bread ... it pushes it up for enough that you don't reach into the toaster at all to retrieve the toast.

It's a big boy ... fairly wide for a toaster ... but worth it because of the quality and speed of the toasting ... and style/originality of the unit.

If I were to try and be more critical, I would say the size could be an issue for those with small kitchens or limited countertop space ... and the slanted design of the unit can on rare occasion launch some lighter toast out of the unit.

But overall, I must give this 5 stars because it does toast and bagels extremely well (no burns yet) and its stylish and original. I would warn that it toasts on a very low setting, so start out with 2 or 3 ... because its fast and powerful ... a higher setting could burn, I would think.

Cuisinart GR-4NAM Griddler

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

Improvements over previous model are the reversable grill plates that snap in and out very easily and now you do not have 2 extra plates to store somewhere. The grease catch pan is integrated into the bottom and removes very easily for cleaning. Cleanup is a snap: take off the 2 grill plates and they wash and cleanup so easy I don't bother putting them in the dishwasher. Clean the drip tray and you are done. Fast & easy.
I disagree with those that say it is great for cooking small meals or for a small family. It cooks the meat so fast, you better not walk away. First thing I cooked were good sized hamburgers & they were at 180° in 5 minutes. The next 4 were perfectly cooked at 4 minutes. Used the Sear setting per the instruction book with the grill preheated. New York Strip sirloins were done in 3 1/2 to 4 minutes on the Sear setting. Fast cooking & the meat is eye appealing with the grill marks on both sides. Batch number 3 will be pork chops tonight.
Granted, it doesn't quite do the job my Weber grill does outside, but when it is 15 below zero, the Griddler is very nice to have for indoor winter usage.

Great indoor grill, cooks fast, easy cleanup... I highly recommend it.

Waring Pro Electric Indoor Grill and Griddle

[ Click D'pic 2 see detail ]

I never owned an indoor grill made by Ronco or George F so I won't be comparing the Waring to anything else. This review is based upon an inspection of the parts and the cooking of several foods.

Waring makes professional products so they know what quality is. Don't let the word "Pro" fool you into thinking this is a restaurant-quality commercial product -- It isn't but the quality is very good. My initial observations:

* The grill is heavy-duty enough for home kitchen use. The body is metal, the controls have a quality feel, the heating elements are thick and the grilling surfaces seem pretty good.
* It takes a while to heat-up but once it does it cooks at a consistent rate.
* The free-floating top grill doesn't really float so you have to free-it-up manually. Keep in mind that the grill plates are really hot and extend outside of the body so a pot holder is in order.
* There are two sets of grill plates: one set with ridges and one set that is flat. The upper and lower plates are not interchangeable. The non-stick coating isn't the hardest I've even seen. There is a cheap platic tool included that you can use to clean the ridged grill plates but it didn't do a satisfactory job even on a brand new grill.

Cooking results were good in both the closed and open positions. The upper grill is not quite level when the grill is laid flat so the drippings may or may not flow in the right direction. I mades some burgers, turkey burgers, fried eggs and bacon all with good results. The cooking surfaces cooked thoroughly, evenly and quickly.

Overall, I'm satisfied and feel that I got a good grill for what it costs. I know I'm dreaming but I would preferred to have cast-iron grill plates over the nonstick aluminum. I would also prefer it if the grill plates were reversable as opossed to interchangeable. As long as it's not made by Cuisinart, I'm happy.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge

This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don’t need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling. For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

    Aroma AWK-115S 1-1/2-Liter Hot H20 X-PressWater Kettle

It's not often that one finds a product that's both visually attractive AND functionally satisfying. This kettle is one of those rare items: the shiny stainless steel body is beautiful to look at, and it boils water very very quickly! It features a nice big and sturdy handle which is very comfortable, and the spout is perfectly designed so that you'd have to be a real klutz to spill things. The cordless feature is wonderful, I tried a cheap ten dollar "Hot Pot" for a day or two and hated having to deal with the cord, plus that model doesn't have automatic shutoff despite what it says on the box---huge fire hazard! There is also a power-indicator light and water-level indicator gauge which are both handy, and I like that there is no exposed heating element inside which would be a pain to clean. Instead it's all smooth clean lines, inside and out!

Sure the outside of the kettle does get a little hot so you probably don't want to have this within reach of toddlers or anything, but if your toddlers can get up on your kitchen countertop then you have a LOT of other problems as well! I appreciated not having to deal with how plastic inevitably gets dirty-looking and sometimes leaves a funny taste in the water.

My only slight concern is that the lid needs a little bit of force to shut completely...probably some kind of insulating seal that shortens the time needed to bring water to a boil, but makes me wonder how durable that part of this kettle is going to be. Oh well, will find out in a few months or (hopefully) years, I suppose!
